BBC School News Report gives 11 - 14 year old students from around the UK the chance to participate in the production and broadcast of their own news reports using the internet as the broadcast medium. With support from BBC news staff, students will be researching real-life news stories to utilise as sources for their own School News Report. English teachers, Vesna Klein and Kate Richards, will be helping students to develop their journalistic skills in order to become School Reporters.

"School Reporters are being invited to take part in the first of four practice News Days on Thursday 13 November. It is a chance for schools to dive in at the deep end and see what they can achieve"

"Teacher Vesna Klein, who worked with Ealing CLC, is adapting the lesson plans on the School Report website into schemes of work for years seven, eight and nine, enabling them to be delivered to 750 students at Brentside High School.

She also plans to make the scheme available to all 13 secondary schools in the London borough." During the ultimate News Day on 26 March 2009 students will be working to a 2pm deadline to create video, audio and text-based news before publishing it on their school website by 4pm.

Schools taking part in a practice News Day might like to rehearse some of these elements. During the day, the progress of students across the UK progress will be featured in an hour-by-hour account, enabling students to compare their work with other Schools.

On the 26th March 2009, from around the country will participate in the BBC School Report News Day and will create their own news reports to publish for broadcast on the school's web pages. The BBC team will be providing up to the minute reports on the progress of each school giving their opinion what each has achieved.
